Thought I'd share something interesting I stumbled across when we started redoing our basement. You know how everyone always says to waterproof first? Well, I kinda shrugged it off thinking, "eh, it's pretty dry down there, what's the worst that could happen?" Turns out, plenty. Apparently, basements can get moisture creeping in from places you'd never expectβlike tiny cracks you can't even see. And once you've got drywall or flooring up, you're basically sealing in a moisture trap. Learned the hard way when we had to rip stuff out and start over.
Another thing I didn't realize: ceiling height matters way more than you think. We put in this great-looking drop ceiling without measuring carefully enough, and now anyone taller than like 5'10" feels claustrophobic down there. Oops.
Anyway, curious if anyone else has run into weird issues or learned random basement reno facts the hard way.
