"Curious if anyone's tried colored lighting or subtle spotlights to enhance the effect without making it look too theme-parkish..."

I actually did something similar in my basementβ€”went with subtle amber-colored LEDs tucked behind some fake ivy. Looked cozy and magical without screaming "Disneyland." Just avoid bright blues or greens...trust me, learned that the hard way.

Amber lighting behind ivy sounds really niceβ€”I did something similar but went with warm fairy lights woven through sheer fabric draped from the ceiling. It created this soft, dreamy glow that felt cozy and inviting without being overly theatrical. Agree on avoiding blues, though I found a very muted teal worked surprisingly well in small doses. Just gotta keep it subtle or it starts feeling like an aquarium... learned that lesson myself, haha.

Haha, been there with the aquarium vibes! Did you find sheer fabric tricky to hang evenly? I love the dreamy effect but always wondered if it's a hassle to maintain long-term.

I tried sheer fabric once and honestly, it was a bit of a pain getting it evenβ€”especially on a ceiling. I ended up using fishing line and tiny hooks spaced evenly, which helped a lot. Maintenance-wise, dust buildup was my main issue... had to gently vacuum every few months. Still, the dreamy look was worth the occasional hassle.

Fishing line and hooks is a clever solutionβ€”though I wonder if tension rods or thin wire cables might've simplified things a bit? Dust is definitely the sneaky villain here... maybe a fabric with tighter weave would've helped cut down on maintenance.
