Didn’t even have to run to the hardware store more than twice, which felt like a win.
That’s a solid record—two trips is basically a gold star in my book. I’ve had “simple” faucet swaps turn into a mess of corroded threads and mystery leaks, but then other times it’s just smooth sailing. Ever had one of those jobs where you open up a wall and actually find things better than you expected? Or is that just wishful thinking on my part...
Ever had one of those jobs where you open up a wall and actually find things better than you expected?
Honestly, I keep hoping for that magical moment, but it’s usually the opposite—like, “oh cool, another mystery pipe wrapped in 1970s who-knows-what.” Is it even possible to get lucky with old plumbing, or is that just a unicorn?
I hear you—most of the time, it’s just a mess behind the drywall. Once in a blue moon, I’ll find copper that’s actually in decent shape, but usually it’s a patchwork of weird fixes from decades past. Has anyone ever found something that actually made their job easier, or is that just wishful thinking?
WHEN DOES A "WEEKEND PLUMBING JOB" EVER ACTUALLY TAKE A WEEKEND?
Ha, yeah, it’s usually like opening a time capsule full of questionable decisions. I did once pull off a bathroom wall and find neatly run PEX with proper shutoffs—almost thought I’d wandered into the wrong house. Didn’t last, though... two feet over, there was a mystery junction held together with duct tape and hope. Maybe one day I’ll get a job where the “weekend” part is actually true, but I’m not holding my breath.
WHEN DOES A "WEEKEND PLUMBING JOB" EVER ACTUALLY TAKE A WEEKEND?
Isn’t it wild how you can go from “this’ll be simple” to “why did they use garden hose in the wall?” in about five minutes? Every time I open up a wall in my place, it’s like a history lesson in shortcuts. Ever wonder if the original builders just ran out of parts and said, “Eh, future me will figure it out”? Still, finding that bit of proper PEX must’ve felt like striking gold, even if it didn’t last. Maybe one day we’ll get a project that actually wraps up on Sunday... but I’m not betting on it.
