Honestly, I’ve never trusted the foil trick either—feels like you’re just delaying the inevitable. Had a clamp hold for two years once, but when it failed, it made a bigger mess than if I’d just replaced the section. For me, cutting out the bad pipe and using SharkBite fittings is usually less hassle in the long run, even if it’s a pain up front. Camera snakes are awesome, but yeah… not exactly in everyone’s toolbox.

Yeah, I’m with you—quick fixes just kick the can down the road. I’ve had better luck just biting the bullet and swapping out the bad section, even if it’s a hassle. SharkBite’s saved me a ton of time, especially in tight spots. Camera snakes are great, but honestly, I usually just call my plumber for anything major... not worth risking a bigger headache.

Totally get that—those things are a lifesaver when you’re wedged under a sink at 11pm. I used to be all about patching leaks with tape or epoxy, but after one too many “surprise showers” in the basement, I just replace the section now. Had a drain clog once that I thought I could snake myself... ended up with a mess and a lesson in humility. Sometimes it’s worth paying the pro, but I’ll admit, I still get stubborn and try anyway.

SharkBite fittings get a lot of flak from old-school plumbers, but honestly, they’ve bailed me out more times than I can count. I used to try patching leaks or using those so-called “miracle” tapes—never really lasts when the pressure kicks up. These days, I just cut out the bad section and use a proper fitting. As for clogs, I’ve seen folks make things worse with DIY snakes… sometimes you’re just pushing the blockage further down. If it’s not an easy fix, I’d rather call in a pro than risk tearing up a whole line.

I get where you’re coming from—SharkBites are a lifesaver in a pinch, especially in older houses where nothing is standard. I’ve had to use them behind plaster walls and honestly, soldering just isn’t practical there. For clogs, I’m with you: if the plunger doesn’t do it, I’m not risking my 1920s pipes with a cheap snake. Sometimes old-school methods just don’t cut it for old homes.
