Couldn’t agree more about the “matchy-matchy” thing—sometimes it just feels forced, and honestly, most people don’t even notice unless you point it out. I’ve mixed Moen and Delta in the same bathroom before and nobody batted an eye. And yeah, American Standard toilets are workhorses. I had one in a college rental that survived four years of student life... that’s saying something. If it works and looks decent, that’s a win for me too.

I hear you on the “matchy-matchy” thing—it’s easy to get caught up in it, but honestly, if the finishes are close enough, nobody’s checking your faucets with a magnifying glass. In my 1920s place, I’ve got Kohler, Moen, and some no-name vintage handles all living together. No riots yet. And American Standard toilets... those things are basically indestructible. My only tip: if you’re swapping out old fixtures in an older home, be ready for some weird pipe sizing or unexpected surprises in the wall. Always double-check measurements before you run off to the hardware store. Learned that one the hard way.

I feel this deep in my soul—my house is a patchwork of brands and finishes, and honestly, nobody’s ever noticed (or at least they’re polite enough not to say). I did learn the hard way that “universal fit” is a lie when you’re dealing with 60-year-old plumbing. Got stuck mid-install with a mystery pipe size and had to shower at the gym for two days. At this point, if it works and doesn’t leak, I’m calling it a win.

Honestly, I’ve been there—once tried to swap out a faucet in my own place and ended up learning way more about compression fittings than I ever wanted to. The “universal” label is almost a dare when you’re dealing with older homes. I’ve mixed Moen and Delta before just because I liked the handles, and nobody’s ever said a word. Sometimes I think matching everything is overrated... unless you’re into that museum-perfect look, which, let’s be real, most of us aren’t living in. If it works and looks decent, that’s a win in my book too.

Mixing brands is basically my whole bathroom vibe right now. I once tried to match everything and ended up with a faucet that looked great but leaked like crazy. Honestly, my old Kohler toilet’s outlasted two “fancier” ones. Sometimes the classics just work.
