That's a great point about cozy corners—funny how often overlooked spaces turn into favorites. Had a similar issue once; couldn't extend a bathroom, ended up creating a compact yet functional laundry nook instead. Ever considered repurposing your garage or basement after hitting permit snags?

Totally agree about repurposing overlooked spaces—sometimes limitations spark the best ideas. When we hit permit issues renovating our historic place, we shifted gears and transformed the basement into a cozy guest suite. Here's how we tackled it: first, waterproofed thoroughly (old basements can be tricky), then added insulation and soft lighting to warm it up. Finally, we used vintage furniture and reclaimed wood accents to keep the charm intact. Honestly, now it's everyone's favorite spot in the house...funny how setbacks can lead to something even better.

Ran into something similar last year—city wouldn't budge on permits for our attic reno. Ended up turning our garage into a studio instead. Honestly, it worked out better...no stairs, easier access, and guests love the privacy. Sometimes you just gotta pivot and roll with it.

I get the appeal of pivoting to a garage studio, but honestly, I'd push back a bit more on the attic idea. Attics have amazing potential for natural ventilation and passive cooling—huge pluses if you're aiming for an eco-friendly remodel. Maybe try talking to someone else at the city office or tweaking your plans slightly? Sometimes a minor adjustment can make all the difference. Hate to see good attic space go unused...

Totally agree on the attic potential—city offices can be picky, but sometimes it's just about finding the right person or wording things differently. Had a similar issue with my basement reno; minor tweaks got me approved. Hang in there, it'll be worth it.
