Been thinking about this lately because, well, my neighborhood's flooded twice in the last five years and I'm getting kinda tired of replacing carpets and furniture...ugh. Anyway, I've seen a couple neighbors actually lift their entire homes up onto stilts or pilings (looks kinda weird at first but hey, dry feet!). On the other hand, some folks around here have gone with building flood barriers around their properties instead—like these concrete walls or berms and stuff.

I can see pros and cons either way. Raising your house seems super effective but also pretty pricey and complicated, plus stairs aren't exactly everyone's best friend. Flood barriers seem simpler to set up, but then again if the water gets too high or the barrier fails... you're back to square one.

Curious what others think about these two options—especially if you've tried either one yourself. Which do you think is smarter long-term?

I've been wondering about the barrier idea myself—sounds cheaper upfront, but how much maintenance are we talking over the years? Wouldn't want it crumbling when you need it most...anyone looked into upkeep costs long-term?
