Last winter really did a number on our deck. I mean, it still stands and all, but the wood's looking worn out and kinda sad. We tried some basic sealant stuff last year, but clearly, that didn't cut it. I'm thinking maybe we missed a step or used the wrong product? Curious if anyone else has had their deck take a beating from harsh weather and found something that actually works better...
Had the same issue with our deck a couple years back—basic sealants just don't cut it if you're dealing with harsh winters. Honestly, sanding it down first made a huge difference for us. It's a pain, but stripping off the old stuff and applying a quality penetrating oil-based stain (not the cheap stuff) really helped ours hold up better. Still looks decent after two rough winters...worth the extra elbow grease, imo.
