Totally agree with you on newer decks not needing annual deep dives. I built mine about four years ago, pressure-treated lumber, proper flashing, the whole nine yards... and after two years of crawling under there and finding nothing but spiderwebs, I dialed it back. Now I just do a quick visual check each spring and a thorough inspection every other year. But yeah, older decks or anything shady-looking - better safe than sorry.
