What would you do if your kid wandered into a half-demo’d kitchen?

Honestly, cardboard’s just asking for trouble—kids will punch through that in no time. Scrap wood can work if you brace it well, but nothing’s truly climb-proof if they’re determined. I’ve seen folks use baby gates stacked, but even that’s not foolproof. Kids are basically tiny ninjas.

Yeah, I hear you—kids will find a way through just about anything if they’re motivated. I’ve had a few rentals where families needed to keep little ones out of construction zones, and honestly, the only thing that really worked was putting up a solid door with a lock, even if it’s temporary. Not the prettiest solution, but it’s quick and does the trick.

Stacked baby gates look clever, but I’ve seen toddlers scale them like they’re training for American Ninja Warrior. Scrap wood can work if you’re handy, but you’ve gotta make sure there aren’t any sharp edges or loose nails—liability nightmare otherwise.

If you’re mid-reno and can’t close off the space, maybe try rearranging furniture to block access? Not perfect, but sometimes a big couch is more effective than any gate. Kids are wild... they’ll always surprise you.

That’s the truth. I tried the double-gate trick once when we were gutting our laundry room—my youngest just used the radiator as a foothold and was over in seconds. Ended up dragging a bookcase across the doorway. Not elegant, but it was heavy enough to keep her out. Sometimes you just have to improvise with what’s on hand, even if it looks ridiculous.

Honestly, I feel this. Toddlers are like tiny parkour experts—if there’s a way over, under, or through, they’ll find it. Bookcase barricade sounds about right. Sometimes it’s less about style and more about survival, right?

Yeah, survival is exactly it. I remember when I was redoing the kitchen floor—thought a baby gate would be enough. Nope, my kid basically scaled it like it wasn’t even there. Ever tried stacking chairs and boxes? Did not slow him down at all. What actually worked for you?
