Ever locked out by your own smart door?

Had to laugh at the “spare key in lockbox by grill” - that’s exactly the kind of thing I’d do. I tried to save money with a cheap smart lock and ended up locked out when the batteries died, phone was dead, and my backup key was... inside. Ever tried hiding a key somewhere so sneaky you forget where it is? Curious if anyone’s found a backup system that doesn’t make you feel like a secret agent every time you need it.

Yeah, hiding a key so well that even you can't find it later is peak “homeowner logic.” Been there - once spent 30 minutes digging through landscaping rocks because I “cleverly” tucked it in a film canister. Not my finest hour.

- I switched to a smart lock with a physical keypad backup - no battery, just old-school buttons. Still need to remember the code, but at least it doesn't care if my phone's dead.
