Glad you mentioned direct-drive openersβI actually considered one briefly, but ended up going belt-driven mostly because of availability at the time. Good to hear they're working out well for your clients, though. And yeah, that startup surge from screw-drives is no joke... I remember holding my breath every time I hit the button, hoping the inverter wouldn't trip. Soft-start modules sound like a smart workaroundβwish I'd known about those sooner. Anyway, glad we're both past the days of waking up the neighborhood at dawn!

Haha, that brings back memories. When I first moved into my historic place, it had an ancient screw-drive opener that sounded like a freight train. Every morning I'd cringe, just waiting for the neighbors to knock on my door. Switching to belt-driven was a lifesaverβquiet and smooth enough that I stopped worrying about waking the whole street. Direct-drive sounds promising too; might give it a shot next time around.

Yeah, belt-driven openers are definitely a step up from those old screw-drives. I've been considering direct-drive myself, but I'm curious how they hold up long-term. Anyone here had one installed for a few years? Wondering if they're as reliable and maintenance-free as advertised, or if there's some hidden catch down the road...
I've had a direct-drive opener installed for about four years now. Initially, I was skeptical about the whole "maintenance-free" claim, but honestly, it's been pretty accurate. Haven't had to do much beyond the occasional lubrication of the track and hinges (which you'd do with any opener anyway). It's still just as quiet and smooth as day one.
One thing I did notice, thoughβinstallation was a bit trickier than my old belt-driven unit. Alignment and balance needed to be spot on, or it would occasionally stall mid-cycle. Once dialed in, though, it's been rock solid. So yeah, I'd say reliability is definitely there, just make sure you spend a little extra time getting it properly set up.

Totally get this. My old screw-drive sounded like a freight train compared to what I've got now... neighbors probably appreciate the upgrade even more than I do.
Totally agree about the direct-drive needing precise alignment. The first one I had installed at a client's place kept stalling halfway until we realized the door balance was slightly off. Once adjusted, though, it was flawless.

Haha, same here. My previous chain-driven unit rattled so loudly it practically announced my arrival home every evening...definitely glad those days are behind me.
