I've used graphite powder before too, and you're right about the toner cartridge disaster vibe... took me days to get it out of my jeans. Curious though, have you noticed any noise difference compared to silicone-based sprays? I've been leaning towards silicone lately since it's plastic-friendly, but if graphite's significantly quieter, might be worth another shot. Always good to have options—especially when sleeves are at stake.

Totally agree about graphite powder being a mess—learned that lesson the hard way myself. Honestly, I've found silicone sprays to be quieter overall, especially on plastic or nylon parts. Graphite's great for metal-on-metal, but silicone just seems smoother and less gritty. Plus, it's way easier to clean up if things go sideways. Might be worth sticking with silicone if you're worried about noise and your sleeves... just my two cents from recent trial and error.

Good points about silicone spray. I've used both graphite and silicone on my old chain-driven opener, and here's what I've noticed:

- Silicone is definitely quieter overall, especially on plastic rollers or nylon bushings. Graphite tends to create a gritty feel after a while, which can actually add noise.
- Graphite powder is messy as hell—got it on my hands once and ended up leaving smudges all over the garage door and wall switches. Lesson learned.
- One thing I'd add, though: silicone sprays seem to attract dust and dirt over time, which means you might have to reapply more frequently or clean it occasionally. Not a huge deal, but something to keep in mind.
- If you've got metal-on-metal parts (like hinges or older tracks), graphite can still be useful. Just be careful with application—less is definitely more.

Overall, silicone spray is probably your best bet if quiet operation is the priority. I've been sticking with it lately and haven't regretted it yet...

Yep, learned that one the hard way too... silicone spray's definitely cleaner. One tip though—wipe off excess silicone after applying; cuts down on dust buildup and keeps things smoother longer.

Been there myself with graphite—left a nice black fingerprint trail all the way to the kitchen sink. Silicone's cleaner for sure, but does it hold up long-term? I've had mixed results; maybe I'm just applying it wrong...
