That magnetic box trick is underrated. I’ve only just started renovating my place and already I’m paranoid about getting locked out, especially with all the contractors coming and going. I tried one of those keypad locks thinking it’d be foolproof, but the battery died on me after a couple months. Ended up sitting on my porch for an hour waiting for my partner to get home, feeling like a total goof.
Honestly, I get why people love smart locks—they’re convenient when they work. But there’s something comforting about having a good old-fashioned key tucked away somewhere. My neighbor swears by hiding hers in a fake rock, but I feel like those things are so obvious now that anyone could spot them. The grill idea is clever though... might have to steal that one.
I do wish tech would just cooperate when you need it most. It’s always when your hands are full or you’re running late that things glitch out. One time I tried using the app to unlock the door while juggling paint cans and groceries, and of course, it froze up right then. Ended up setting everything down and digging through my bag for the backup key anyway.
