Okay, here's a hypothetical I've been mulling over. Imagine your neighbor (nice enough guy, you know, waves when you get the mail, lends you his ladder once or twice) notices your house needs painting and casually offers to do it for a super cheap price. He's not exactly a pro painter, but he swears he's done it before and "it'll look great, trust me." On the other hand, you've been thinking about hiring a legit painting contractorβsomeone with references, insurance, guarantees, the whole shebangβbut obviously that's gonna cost way more.
So, um...what would you actually do in this scenario? Would you risk the neighborly goodwill and save some cash, or play it safe and pay more for the professional? I'm torn between being nice and practical, and I seriously can't decide.
