Delayed payments driving me nuts—does this ever get easier?

I’ve run into the “net 15” confusion too—some folks seem to think it means “pay whenever you feel like it.” I’ve started spelling out the due date in plain language, like “payment due within 15 days of invoice date,” and even then, someone will ask if weekends count. It’s honestly a lesson in patience.

One thing I’m still wrestling with is how much detail to include in the contract. Too much, and people get overwhelmed or nitpick every line. Too little, and you’re wide open for misunderstandings. Have you found a sweet spot for how detailed your contracts get? Or do you just keep tweaking them as new issues pop up? I’m always curious if there’s a better way to find that balance, because it feels like a moving target every time.

- Honestly, I lean toward more detail, even if it means a longer contract. People will nitpick either way, but at least you’ve got your bases covered if something goes sideways.
- I’ve had folks try to exploit vague wording before—never fun. Now I just add a short summary section up top for the “big picture,” then all the nitty-gritty details below.
- It’s a pain, but I’d rather deal with a few questions up front than a headache later. Sometimes clarity just means more words, even if it feels like overkill.

I hear you on the contract detail struggle. I used to think shorter was better, but after a couple of “creative interpretations” from tenants, I’m all about spelling things out. Ever had someone claim late fees don’t apply because it wasn’t “clear enough”? That was a fun one... Do you ever worry that too much detail scares people off, though? Sometimes I wonder if I’m overdoing it, but then again, chasing payments is way worse.
