Why do built-in benches always look better than they feel?

Did you have any trouble getting the Velcro to actually stick long-term? Mine keeps peeling up after a while—maybe it’s the humidity?

Yeah, Velcro and humidity are a tough combo. I had the same issue in my breakfast nook—ended up switching to snaps screwed right into the bench. Not as invisible, but way more reliable over time. Cushions finally stay put, even with kids climbing all over them.

I get why you switched to snaps—they definitely hold up better with kids. But sometimes I find the snaps a bit uncomfortable if the cushion shifts and you end up sitting right on one. Have you ever tried the heavy-duty 3M hook-and-loop tape? It’s pricier, but I’ve had good luck with it even in humid spots. Just have to really clean the surface first… learned that the hard way.
