Every time we get a good rainfall my yard turns into this mini swamp around the house. Like, it's not flooding exactly but it stays soggy and squishy for days and I'm worried about water just sitting around the foundation. I've read about french drains and stuff, but honestly I don't know if that's overkill or if there's an easier DIY way to handle it. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Would appreciate hearing what's worked (or hasn't).
Had the exact same issue at my placeβfelt like I needed rubber boots just to get to the mailbox, haha. French drains can be great, but honestly, sometimes just tweaking your landscaping a bit helps a ton. I built up the soil around my foundation slightly and planted some thirsty native plants that soak up excess water. No more squishy yard, plus it looks nice and eco-friendly too. Might be worth a shot before you start trench-digging adventures...
