I've had similar issues with decals outdoors, even with sealers. Honestly, have you considered stencils instead? They're pretty straightforward: tape down your stencil, dab on some outdoor-grade paint, and you're good. It holds up way better to weather and sun exposure. Plus, you can easily repaint or change designs seasonally if you're feeling creative... might be worth a shot if decals keep disappointing you.

I've never tried stencils myself, but your method sounds pretty solid. Do you find it tricky at all to keep the paint from bleeding under the stencil edges? I've had that issue indoors before, so I'm curious how it holds up outdoors with textured surfaces. Still, seems like a smart alternative if decals aren't cutting it... might have to give it a go next season.

I've used stencils on my porch steps a few times, and honestly, bleeding can be a pain if you're not careful. But here's the trickβ€”use a stencil adhesive spray lightly on the back before placing it down. It helps seal the edges, even on rougher surfaces like brick or concrete. Also, go easy with the paint; thin layers dry quicker and bleed less. Trust me, once you get the hang of it, you'll wonder why you ever bothered with decals...they never last anyway.

That's actually a really smart tip about the adhesive sprayβ€”I wish I'd known that sooner. I tried stenciling my porch steps last spring, and let's just say it wasn't my finest DIY moment, haha. But you're totally right about decals; they peel and fade so quickly, it's hardly worth the effort. Might give stencils another shot now that you've shared this trick...feeling cautiously optimistic it'll turn out better this time. Thanks for the encouragement!

Actually, decals aren't always that bad if you prep the surface right:
- Thoroughly clean steps beforehand (soap + scrub brush)
- Apply a clear sealer after placing decals
- Touch up every season or two

Mine lasted 3 years this way...just another option to consider.
