I'm finally tackling my backyard shed project, and now I'm stuck on the roof part. I want something that'll hold up well but won't empty my wallet, you know? Metal, shingles, plastic panels...what's worked best for you guys?

- Metal roofing's solid—lasts forever, but can get noisy in rain.
- Shingles are quieter, easy DIY, but might need replacing sooner.
- Plastic panels...meh, cheap but crack over time.

You planning insulation underneath or just leaving it bare?

Yeah, metal roofs can sound like a drum solo in heavy rain, but honestly, a bit of insulation underneath makes a huge difference. Have you thought about foam board or something similar to dampen the noise a bit?

Haha, drum solo is spot-on. Had one on a rental property once, and tenants joked they didn't need Spotify during storms. But seriously, you're right about insulation—makes a world of difference. Foam board's good; I've also seen folks use spray foam underneath, which seals gaps nicely and cuts down noise even more.

Honestly though, the noise isn't always bad. Some people find it relaxing—like built-in white noise for sleeping. Plus, durability-wise, metal's tough to beat for the price. Had shingles blow off in storms before...never had that issue with metal.

Either way, sounds like you're on the right track. Good luck with the shed!

Metal roofs definitely hold up well, but if noise is a big concern, shingles can still be budget-friendly and quieter. I flipped a shed last summer and went with architectural shingles—cost was reasonable, installation straightforward, and they've handled storms nicely so far. Just make sure you've got proper underlayment and decent ventilation underneath to prevent moisture issues down the road. Either way, sounds like you're getting some solid advice here already.
