RAINBOW gutters: wild or wonderful?

I’m kind of torn. My partner would totally be into rainbow gutters—he’s all about “bold choices”—but I keep picturing how they’d look with our faded blue siding. I saw a neighbor paint just the downspouts in a pastel gradient and it was surprisingly cute, though. Has anyone tried painting gutters themselves? I’m worried about the paint chipping or it looking messy after a season or two...

Had a rental where the previous owner went all-in on bright colors, including rainbow gutters. Looked fun at first, but honestly, the paint started peeling after one winter. Maintenance was a pain—touch-ups every spring, and it never looked as crisp as day one. If you’re set on color, powder-coated gutters hold up way better than DIY paint jobs. Just my two cents... sometimes bold choices are more work than they seem.

I get what you’re saying about the upkeep, but I’ve actually had the opposite experience with bold colors—at least on trim and doors. We used a high-quality exterior paint (not powder-coated, just a good primer and topcoat) and it’s held up for three years now. Maybe gutters take more of a beating? Still, I think if you prep right and use the right stuff, you don’t have to settle for boring. Just gotta be ready for a little extra work, I guess.

I’ve wondered the same thing about how much more wear gutters get compared to doors or trim. Water, leaves, snow—gutters just take a beating. I did a painted gutter project once (not rainbow, just blue) and honestly, it chipped faster than I hoped, even with solid prep. Maybe powder coating is worth it for gutters? Still, I do love the idea of bold colors outside—makes the whole block feel more alive. Has anyone tried eco-friendly paints for this kind of thing? Curious if they hold up better or worse over time...

Powder coating definitely lasts longer than standard paint, but it’s not always easy to get done unless you’re replacing the gutters. I’ve seen some eco-friendly paints hold up okay, but usually they fade faster in direct sun. Has anyone tried those gutter covers that claim to protect the finish? Wonder if that helps with chipping at all...
