We had our attic insulated about two years ago, and at the time, the company made a big deal about their "amazing warranty" and how we'd be covered for years and years. Fast forward to now, and we noticed some spots where the insulation seems thinner and less effective. So I figured, hey, no biggie, we have that warranty thingy, right?

Well, turns out it's not that simple. I called them up, and after being on hold forever (seriously, I think I aged a decade listening to elevator music), they finally tell me that the warranty only covers defects in the actual insulation material itself—not installation issues or settling or anything like that. Um... isn't settling kinda normal? Like, isn't that exactly what you'd expect to happen over time?

Then they hit me with the kicker: apparently, if I want them to come out and check it, there's a "service fee" just for them to look at it. And if they decide it's not covered (which sounds pretty likely), I'm out even more money. Feels like a total bait-and-switch situation.

Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if these guarantees are even worth the paper they're printed on. Has anyone else run into this kind of frustration? Or did I just pick the wrong company? Curious if this is common or if I'm just unlucky here...

Had a similar experience myself a few years back. We had our attic insulated, and I remember feeling pretty confident about the warranty too—until we actually needed it. Turns out, like you said, settling isn't covered, and neither was the uneven installation job they did. After some frustration, I decided to tackle it myself.

If you're comfortable with DIY, it's honestly not too tricky to fix those thin spots yourself. Here's what I did: first, grabbed a few bags of blown-in insulation from the hardware store (pretty affordable). Then rented a blower machine for a day—most places have them available. After that, just topped off the thin areas carefully, making sure not to overfill or block any vents. Took me an afternoon, but the difference was noticeable almost immediately.

Warranties can be hit or miss, but at least this way you know it's done right...and no more elevator music on hold.
