neighbors installed sound-blocking insulation - does it really work?

Interesting about the denim insulation - I looked into it briefly but got put off by the price tag. Ended up going with mass-loaded vinyl instead, mostly because I read it's better at handling bass frequencies. Honestly, it did make a noticeable difference with the neighbor's subwoofer rumble, but installation was a pain and it's definitely not eco-friendly. Cork panels sound cool, but I'm skeptical they'd have enough density to really dampen bass effectively. Maybe layering cork with something heavier could work? I'd be curious if anyone's tried combining materials like that...

Mass-loaded vinyl definitely helps with bass, but honestly, cork panels aren't as weak as you might think. I've used them in a client's home office, layered over drywall, and the difference was pretty noticeable - even with lower frequencies. The key is thickness and proper installation. If you're skeptical, maybe try a small test area first before committing fully. Combining cork with something denser like drywall or even plywood could give you that extra boost you're looking for...

I've actually had decent luck with cork too, but honestly, nothing beats proper layering. If you really wanna kill bass, try sandwiching mass-loaded vinyl between drywall sheets. Cork helps, sure, but bass frequencies are stubborn... layering is your friend here.

Totally agree on layering - mass-loaded vinyl is a lifesaver. Cork's decent, but it's more of a mid-to-high frequency helper. Bass is tricky because it travels through structures, not just air. I've flipped a few houses near busy streets, and honestly, resilient channels or isolation clips made a huge difference. They decouple drywall from studs, cutting down vibration transfer significantly. A bit pricier and more labor-intensive, sure, but worth it if bass noise is your main headache. Also, sealing gaps around outlets and fixtures helps more than you'd think... sound finds every little crack.

Good points on resilient channels - I found them effective too, though installation was a bit of a hassle. Curious if anyone's tried Green Glue compound between drywall layers? I've heard mixed things; some swear by it for bass reduction, others say it's overrated. Considering the cost and effort, it'd be good to know if it's genuinely worth adding into the mix...
