Green board in the news - worth the hype for bathrooms?

Green board’s kind of a mixed bag in my experience. I’ve seen it hold up just fine behind a vanity, but around tubs or showers, even with “moisture-resistant” paint, it’s still pretty risky. Like you said,

That’s exactly what happened in my old place - looked good for three years, then suddenly I’m patching mushy drywall. Ventilation helps, but kids + water = chaos. Haven’t tried any of the recycled boards yet... honestly a little skeptical. Cement board is a pain to cut, but at least it doesn’t turn to oatmeal if something leaks.

Tried those foam boards last year when we redid our shower - honestly, I was skeptical at first. Cutting them was a breeze compared to cement board, and they’re so much lighter. Didn’t love the price tag, but after dealing with moldy drywall in a previous place, I figured it was worth it.
