Cement board’s my go-to too, especially for showers or anywhere that’s gonna see a lot of water. Green board just doesn’t cut it once moisture gets behind the tile—seen way too many soft spots and moldy surprises during demo. Kerdi’s nice for speed, but I still trust cement board more for rentals where you can’t control how careful folks are. Maybe overkill, but I’d rather not gamble with leaks.

Totally get where you’re coming from—nothing like tearing out a “water-resistant” wall and finding it’s basically papier-mâché. Cement board’s heavy, but I’d rather wrestle with that than deal with a soggy mess down the road. Overkill? Maybe, but peace of mind’s worth it.

Green board’s always marketed like it’s some magic solution, but honestly, I’ve seen too many bathrooms where it just didn’t hold up. Sure, it’s better than regular drywall, but that’s a low bar. Anyone else ever try prying out green board after a decade? It’s not pretty. Cement board is a pain to cut and lug around, but I’d rather deal with that upfront than a moldy wall later. Is anyone actually using green board behind tile anymore, or is that just old-school thinking?

I still see green board used in some remodels, especially in powder rooms or half-baths where there’s no direct water exposure. It’s not my first pick for shower walls, but it’s not totally useless either. Cement board’s better for wet zones, but green board can work if you’re careful about waterproofing and it’s just a splash area. Honestly, it comes down to budget and how much abuse that wall’s gonna take.

Green board’s kinda old school, but I get why it still pops up. I’ve had a few flips where the budget was tight and green board made sense for a quick powder room update. Curious—has anyone tried the newer mold-resistant drywall options? Wondering if they’re really worth the extra bucks or just marketing fluff…
