I tried the louvered door route a couple years ago, and honestly, it helped more than I expected—my shoes stopped smelling musty, at least. But I kinda regret not checking the insulation first. Turns out the closet shares a wall with the garage, so cold air just pours in during the winter. Makes me wonder if all these airflow fixes are just band-aids if the real problem's in the walls...

I get what you mean about the airflow fixes just masking a bigger issue. I had a similar situation—spent money on a fancy dehumidifier, but my closet was still freezing in winter. Did you ever try adding insulation after you noticed the cold air? I’m wondering if it’s worth the hassle or if there’s a cheaper workaround...

Insulation’s honestly the best fix for this kind of thing. I’ve seen folks try weatherstripping or even stuffing towels in cracks—works for a week, then you’re back to popsicle socks. If you can swing it, batt insulation between the studs on that shared wall makes a huge difference. It’s a bit of a hassle, but way less annoying than dealing with moldy sweaters every winter... trust me, been there.

Yeah, insulation really does the trick, but man, it can get pricey fast. I tried the towel-in-the-crack thing too—total fail once the temps dropped. Ended up using those foam outlet covers and a cheap draft stopper for a while. Not perfect, but my closet stopped feeling like a meat locker... at least until I could save up for proper insulation.

Man, I hear you on the towel trick—mine just froze to the floor last winter. Those foam outlet covers are underrated though, right? Not glamorous, but they help. I did the rolled-up blanket thing for a while too... looked ridiculous but at least my shoes didn’t turn into icicles. Sometimes you gotta MacGyver it until the budget allows for the real fix.
