Had a similar mess in my old place—thought a fancy dehumidifier would do the trick, but nope. Turned out there was a tiny crack behind the baseboard letting water in every time it rained. Once I sealed that up, the musty smell finally disappeared. Funny how it’s always the stuff you can’t see that causes the most trouble.

Honestly, I get the hidden crack thing, but in my experience, it’s not always just about sealing up leaks. I’ve seen places where the moisture was coming up from under the slab or even wicking through old plaster. Did you ever check the humidity levels after you sealed it? Sometimes folks patch a crack and think it’s solved, but the smell comes back a few months later... Mold’s sneaky like that. Ever tried pulling up a floorboard to see what’s going on underneath?

- You’re not wrong—mold finds a way, even when you think you’ve sealed everything up tight.
- Humidity meters are a game changer. If you haven’t checked after sealing, it’s worth a shot. Numbers don’t lie.
- Pulled up enough floorboards in my day to know that sometimes the real mess is hiding underneath... especially in older homes where vapor barriers weren’t a thing.
- Don’t get discouraged. Mold’s persistent, but so are you. Every step helps, even if it feels like two steps forward, one back.

Couldn’t agree more on the humidity meter—those things are underrated. I’d go a step further and say invest in a decent dehumidifier if you’re seeing numbers over 55%. In my experience, once you get humidity consistently below that, mold just doesn’t stand much of a chance. And yeah, older homes without vapor barriers can be a nightmare... sometimes it’s less about what you see and more about what’s lurking behind the drywall or under floors. Worth pulling back the curtain, even if it means some extra work upfront.

- Had a closet that looked fine until I pulled up the carpet—total mess underneath.
- Humidity meter read 62% even with AC running. Dehumidifier dropped it to 48% in a week.
- Agree on vapor barriers... skipped one once, paid for it later. Not worth the shortcut.
