Glad you mentioned the soundproofing part...never thought about that angle. Been debating cellulose myself, mostly for budget reasons. Good to hear it holds up long-term if installed right—makes me feel better about taking the plunge.

Cellulose is solid for sure, but honestly, the soundproofing angle might be a bit oversold. I did cellulose in my last place—budget-friendly, yes, but don't expect miracles on noise reduction. My neighbor's dog still sounded like it was auditioning for American Idol every morning at 6am. If soundproofing is a big deal for you, might wanna look into pairing cellulose with something denser like rockwool in key spots. Costs a bit more, but your sanity might thank you later. Just my two cents from someone who's been there...and heard that.

Totally get where you're coming from on the cellulose. Did a reno about two years ago—went all-in on cellulose insulation thinking it'd quiet down the street noise. Well, let's just say the garbage truck still sounded like it was backing up through my living room every Tuesday morning at dawn...

But here's the thing: cellulose isn't really built to handle heavy-duty soundproofing alone. It does wonders for thermal insulation (my heating bills dropped noticeably), but if you're after peace and quiet, you gotta layer up. I ended up adding rockwool batts in the bedroom walls and ceilings, and that combination was a game changer. It's like putting on earmuffs over your sweater—cozy and quiet.

Yeah, it costs a bit extra upfront, but honestly, when you're sipping coffee in blissful silence while your neighbor's leaf blower symphony is raging outside...worth every penny. Just my experience, anyway.

Yeah, cellulose alone definitely isn't cutting it for noise. Learned that the hard way myself—thought I'd save a buck and skip the rockwool, but ended up regretting it big time. Eventually bit the bullet and added some mass-loaded vinyl behind drywall in the main bedroom. Night-and-day difference, honestly. It's pricier upfront, sure...but not hearing my neighbor's kids screaming at 7am on Saturday? Priceless.

Totally agree on cellulose alone not being enough. I went down a similar road—thought I'd be clever and just double up on drywall layers instead of splurging on rockwool or MLV. It helped a little, but honestly, it wasn't worth the hassle or the savings. Ended up still hearing way more street noise than I'd hoped for, especially garbage trucks at 5am...ugh.

Eventually caved and added rockwool batts in the walls when we redid the guest room last year. Huge improvement, especially with mid-range noises like voices and TV sounds. Still debating mass-loaded vinyl for our master bedroom though—it's tempting after hearing your experience. But man, that stuff adds up quick once you factor in labor and everything else.

Guess it's one of those "cry once" kinda things—you pay upfront to avoid headaches later. Lesson learned, I suppose.
