I recently realized I've been replacing appliances way too often, so I started actually taking care of them. For example, with my fridge I started vacuuming the coils at the back every few months—it's crazy how much dust builds up there. And for the washer, running an empty cycle with vinegar once in a while really helps with the funky smells. But um...does anyone have simpler or better ways to keep stuff running smoothly? I'm all ears.

Vacuuming coils definitely helps, but honestly...do you think the vinegar thing is really necessary? I've had washers last years without ever doing that. Maybe just leaving the door open after cycles would be simpler and enough to prevent smells?

I've never bothered with vinegar either, honestly. Leaving the door open after cycles has always worked fine for me—no funky smells yet. I mean, if your washer isn't giving you trouble, why complicate things? Vacuuming coils is already more than most people do, so you're ahead of the game there. Keep it simple and save yourself the hassle...

True enough, but have you checked your dryer vent lately? I used to think leaving the washer door open was enough too (and honestly, it usually is), but then my dryer started taking forever to dry clothes. Turns out the vent was clogged with lint buildup—talk about a fire hazard waiting to happen. Ever since then, I've made it a habit to check it every few months. It's not complicated or anything, just something easy to overlook.

Also curious: anyone here regularly flush their water heater tank? I've heard mixed opinions on whether it's worth the hassle or not. I've done mine maybe twice in five years and haven't noticed much difference...but maybe I'm missing something?
