Sometimes I feel like we’re all beta testers in our own homes... but maybe that’s part of the fun? Or maybe it’s just exhausting.

Honestly, I think you nailed it. There’s a fine line between “convenient” and “why did my coffee maker just start at 3am?” I’ve had smart plugs save me from running around unplugging lamps before bed, but the more complicated stuff just seems to break when you need it most. Keeping it simple is underrated—sometimes less tech really is more.

Ever tried wiring a smart thermostat only for it to randomly blast the heat in July? I’ve seen folks spend a fortune on automation, but does it really save time when you’re constantly troubleshooting? Sometimes I wonder if good old switches are underrated...

Honestly, I see this all the time—folks drop a ton of cash on smart gear, then end up calling me because the “smart” system’s acting up. Sometimes a regular switch just works, no fuss. Ever notice how much time you spend updating apps or resetting stuff compared to just flipping a switch? Makes you wonder if we’re overcomplicating things for no real gain...

I keep wondering about this too—like, is there a point where the convenience outweighs the hassle? I’m in the middle of renovating and trying to decide how “smart” to go. Does anyone actually track how much time they spend troubleshooting versus just using stuff? I get that remote controls and automations are cool, but if I have to reset my lights every other week, is it really worth it?

Honestly, my “smart” thermostat locked me out once and I had to Google how to get back in... using my phone flashlight because the lights were also stuck. Convenience? Sometimes. But I swear my dumb switches never gaslit me like this.
