I hear you on the “house rebelling” thing. My place isn’t quite as old—built in the 60s—but it’s got its quirks, and smart tech doesn’t always play nice. I tried to install a smart thermostat last winter, thinking it’d be a breeze. Instead, I spent two hours trying to figure out which wire was which, only to realize my system didn’t even have a common wire. Ended up with no heat for a night and a very grumpy spouse. But, to be fair, there was one time my smart smoke detector actually did save the day. We were out of town, and it sent an alert to my phone about smoke in the kitchen. Turns out, our neighbor’s kid was feeding our cat and left a towel too close to the stove. The alarm scared him off before anything caught fire, and we got home to just a smoky kitchen instead of a disaster. That’s probably the only time I’ve felt like the tech justified itself.
