Honestly, I get where you’re coming from. I’ve done a few kitchen remodels for myself and friends, and every time someone brings up smart gadgets, I just kind of shake my head. The idea of having to update my fridge or troubleshoot my oven with an app doesn’t really appeal to me. I mean, when did making toast get so complicated?

I’ve seen some cool stuff—like those touch faucets or the fridges that tell you when you’re out of milk—but in practice, it’s just more stuff that can go sideways. My buddy put in one of those smart dishwashers last year and ended up hand-washing dishes for a week because the thing wouldn’t connect to his WiFi after a power outage. He was not thrilled.

Don’t get me wrong, if you love tech and want your kitchen to feel like the Starship Enterprise, go for it. But if you’re already worried about updates and things breaking, there’s nothing wrong with keeping it simple. Most “dumb” appliances last forever with a little maintenance. Less stress, less stuff to break.

I guess it comes down to what actually makes your life easier versus what just sounds cool on paper. For me, I’d rather have a solid stove than one that needs a firmware patch every six months... but hey, maybe I’m just old school.
