Smart gadgets in the kitchen: time-saver or just more hassle?

Totally get where you’re coming from. I used to think I needed every new gadget that popped up on those “must-have kitchen tech” lists. Ended up with a cabinet full of stuff I barely touched - like that avocado slicer that only ever worked on one avocado before it broke. Meanwhile, my old chef’s knife and a sturdy cutting board do 90% of the work.

I will say, though, my air fryer has actually earned its spot on the counter. It’s not super “smart,” but it’s versatile and saves me time (and money) since I’m not heating up the whole oven for small things. But yeah, most of the “smart” gadgets just seem like more stuff to clean or figure out. Sometimes simple really is better, especially when you’re trying to keep things affordable and not clutter up your space.

I get the appeal of keeping it simple, but I’ve actually found some of the newer smart gadgets surprisingly helpful - at least in terms of multitasking. For example, my smart coffee maker lets me start brewing from bed, which sounds lazy but is a lifesaver on hectic mornings. I know what you mean about “more stuff to clean,” though. Still, if something can automate a routine and actually works reliably, it’s worth considering. Sometimes it’s just about choosing wisely and not getting sucked into every trend.

I get what you mean about picking gadgets that actually make life easier. I tried a smart scale during my kitchen reno, thinking it’d streamline baking, but honestly, syncing it with my phone every time got old fast. On the other hand,

“if something can automate a routine and actually works reliably, it’s worth considering.”
That’s been true for my induction cooktop with built-in timers - super precise and less guesswork. But I still wonder: do these things really save time overall, or just shift where the hassle is?

Funny you mention the induction cooktop - mine’s been a game changer for timing pasta, but the smart scale? I’m right there with you. Sometimes I feel like the “smart” part just adds another app to juggle. I do think some gadgets genuinely save time, but others seem to trade one little hassle for a different one. Maybe it comes down to whether you actually enjoy tinkering with tech or just want things to work, no fuss. For me, sometimes an old-school timer and a sticky note beat all the automation in the world...

Totally get where you’re coming from. I’ve tried a few “smart” kitchen gadgets and honestly, some just end up collecting dust. The induction cooktop is one of the few that actually made my life easier - super precise, no guessing. But yeah, the smart scale? I spent more time syncing it than actually weighing anything. Sometimes a sticky note and a good old-fashioned timer just feel more reliable. Guess it’s all about finding what fits your routine, not just what’s new or flashy.
