Where should I start with a dishwasher filter and spray-arm cleaning?
If dishes come out with residue or the spray seems weaker than usual, it’s not clear whether routine cleaning is the right next step. Dishwasher filters and spray arms vary by model, and I wouldn’t want to force off a fixed part or poke debris into an opening.
What’s the best way to find the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions for a specific model, and what should they clarify about removing the filter versus cleaning the spray arms in place? If those parts look clear but the problem remains, what would suggest it’s beyond routine cleaning?

Use the full model number from the label around the dishwasher door when searching the manufacturer’s support site; similar-looking models can have different cleaning steps. The manual should say whether the filter unlocks and lifts out, and whether the spray arms detach or are meant to be cleaned in place. If residue or weak spray persists after following the model’s cleaning instructions, that’s a reason to investigate further, but it doesn’t identify the cause by itself.
