- Totally get the pet drama—mine acts like I’ve committed a crime every time I try something new on the floors.
- Olive oil in warm water is actually a solid hack. Not everyone’s into it, but if it works for your space and doesn’t leave things slippery, that’s a win.
- I’ve found that less is more with any oil—too much and you’re basically prepping for an indoor slip-n-slide.
- If you ever want to switch it up, a damp microfiber mop (just water) can keep things looking good between deeper cleans. No weird smells, no pet suspicion.
- Every floor really does have its own personality...and pets definitely have opinions about what goes on them.
- You’re not alone in the “finding what works” struggle. Sometimes it’s just trial and error until you land on something that keeps both the wood and the dog happy.

Honestly, I’ve tried the olive oil trick and my dog acted like I’d turned the place into a skating rink. Microfiber mop is my go-to now—less drama, less risk of me wiping out. Floors still look good, and nobody’s side-eyeing me.

I tried the olive oil thing once—never again. My cat took one step, did the splits, and glared at me like I’d ruined her life. I’m with you on the microfiber mop. I did get sucked into buying one of those fancy floor polishes, but honestly, it just made the floor look weirdly shiny, like a bowling alley. Microfiber’s way less stressful, and I don’t have to worry about anyone (including myself) sliding into the cabinets.

Yeah, those floor polishes are more trouble than they're worth. I tried one and it just highlighted every scratch and dust speck. Microfiber’s solid—quick swipe, done. If I want a bit more shine, I’ll use a damp cloth with diluted vinegar, but that’s about it. No slip-n-slide floors for me.

Honestly, I hear you on the floor polish drama. Half the time, those products just make the scratches look like they’re under a spotlight. I’ve seen folks go all out with fancy stuff, but honestly, a microfiber mop and a little elbow grease does wonders. Vinegar’s great for a quick shine, but I’d just be careful not to overdo it—too much can mess with the finish over time.

Funny thing, I once had a client who wanted their floors “mirror shiny” and ended up skating across the living room in socks. Not ideal unless you’re training for the Olympics... Sometimes less is more. Clean, simple, and safe beats high-gloss chaos every time.
