- Totally relate to the sore arms—felt like a gym workout I didn’t sign up for.
- The oil-under-wax finish does look richer, but I’m a bit nervous about maintenance. Does it get grimy over time or is it easy to spot-clean?
- Curious if anyone’s tried tinted wax for a subtle color boost... or is that just asking for trouble?

Honestly, I’ve found wax-over-oil to be more forgiving than straight oil. The wax seems to repel grime better, at least in my old place where dust is a constant battle. But tinted wax... I tried it once and the color was uneven in the corners, almost streaky. Maybe it’s just my uneven floors, but I’d stick with clear if you want less fuss.

I get what you mean about tinted wax being tricky—had a similar issue in my last place where the corners just looked... off, no matter how careful I was. But honestly, I’ve had way less trouble with grime since switching to oil-under-wax. Maybe it’s the combo, but spills and dust seem to wipe up easier, and I don’t get that sticky buildup I used to with just oil. Maintenance is still a thing, but it’s not as much of a headache as I expected.

Yeah, corners are always a pain with tinted wax—no matter how careful you tape or feather, it just never looks totally even. I’ve found oil-under-wax does help with cleanup like you mentioned, but sometimes I notice the wax layer wears unevenly in high-traffic spots. Quick fix is to buff in a little more, but it’s not maintenance-free. Still, I’d take that over the gummy mess pure oil can leave if folks don’t wipe up spills fast enough.

Corners are the bane of my existence too—especially in this 1920s bungalow. The last time I did a full wax job, I ended up crouched on the floor with a toothbrush, cursing whoever invented baseboards. I’ve tried the oil-under-wax trick, but like you said, it’s not exactly set-it-and-forget-it. Those high-traffic spots by the front door seem to wear down in no time, and my dog’s claws don’t help.

Funny thing, though—my neighbor swears by pure oil and says it gives her floors that “lived-in” look she loves. Personally, I can’t stand how sticky it gets if someone spills water or drags in mud. Have you ever tried any of those hardwax oils? I keep hearing they’re the best of both worlds, but I’m skeptical—seems like every finish has its own quirks.
