Regretting my fridge placement—anyone else have workflow issues?

Had the same issue after our last kitchen redo. We thought a drawer fridge would be slick for snacks and drinks, but honestly, stuff just gets buried. My kids forget what's in there, and I end up tossing more than I'd like. Maybe it works for some folks, but between the hunt for lost yogurts and the extra electricity, I kind of wish we'd just stuck with a regular fridge and a chest freezer in the basement. Ever tried rearranging those drawers to make them more practical? I couldn't really figure out a system that stuck.

Funny you mention that—I've seen a lot of folks try to organize those drawer fridges with bins or dividers, but it always seems like stuff migrates anyway. I did a kitchen for a family last year who swore by labeling each section, but even then, things got shuffled around. Have you noticed if certain snacks or drinks just never get used, or is it more random? Sometimes I wonder if the drawer style just encourages things to get lost in the shuffle.

That’s exactly what bugs me—stuff just disappears in there. Do you think it’s more about the depth of the drawers, or is it just human nature to toss things wherever? Ever tried switching up what goes in each drawer, or does that just make it worse?

Honestly, I totally get what you mean—those deep fridge drawers are like black holes for leftovers and random veggies. For me, it’s a mix of both: the drawer depth and just...life happening. I started putting clear bins inside the drawers to corral things by type (like all cheeses together), and it’s helped a bit. Switching stuff around sometimes backfires, though—I forget where I put things and end up digging anyway. It’s not perfect, but at least I waste less food now. Don’t beat yourself up; I think most of us are just doing our best with what we’ve got.

- 100% relate to this. I swear, I’ve lost more bags of spinach to the “drawer abyss” than I care to admit.
- Clear bins are a solid idea. I tried labeling mine once, but then I’d just ignore the labels when I was in a rush... so yeah, not foolproof.
- Rearranging stuff always sounds good in theory, but half the time I end up forgetting where I put things too. It’s like playing hide and seek with my own groceries.
- Honestly, you’re right—life just happens and sometimes the fridge is low on the priority list. No shame in that.
- The fact that you’re wasting less food now is a win in my book. Progress over perfection, right?
- If it makes you feel any better, even after flipping a few kitchens, I still haven’t found the “perfect” fridge setup. There’s always some trade-off.

You’re definitely not alone here. We’re all just trying to keep those veggies from turning into science experiments...
