What would you do if your kitchen reno budget doubled overnight?

Pot fillers always seemed like a luxury to me, but I’ll admit, after lugging heavy pots back and forth for years on jobs, I get the appeal. Had a client who swore she’d never use hers—now she says it’s her favorite feature. Funny how that works. Outlets though, you can never have too many... learned that the hard way in my own place.

IF MY KITCHEN RENO BUDGET DOUBLED OVERNIGHT...

- First, I’d probably check the calendar to make sure it’s not April Fool’s.
- Next, I’d have to resist the urge to blow it all on a fridge that texts me when the milk’s low.

But seriously, if I suddenly had double the cash, I’d be tempted by all those fancy extras—pot fillers, built-in espresso machines, maybe even a wine fridge (even though I mostly drink boxed wine, let’s be real). But then the practical side of me kicks in:

- Outlets everywhere. I mean, I thought I had enough, but now I’m plugging my toaster in next to my coffee maker and tripping over cords like it’s an obstacle course. If I could go back, I’d add outlets under cabinets, in drawers, maybe even in the pantry.
- Lighting upgrades. Under-cabinet, over-cabinet, inside-cabinet... I want to see every crumb I drop.
- Storage solutions. Pull-out shelves, lazy Susans, those sneaky toe-kick drawers. The more places to hide my snack stash, the better.

Pot filler? I get the hype, but honestly, I’m not convinced I’d use it enough to justify the plumbing hassle. I’ve got a decent arm from years of carrying groceries up three flights, so maybe I’ll save that cash for a splurge somewhere else.

One thing I’d skip: any “smart” appliance that needs an app just to turn on. Last thing I need is my oven refusing to preheat because it wants a software update.

If I’m honest, I’d probably still end up over budget. That’s just how these things go. But hey, at least I’d have enough outlets to charge my phone while microwaving leftovers... priorities, right?

I get where you’re coming from on the pot filler—it looks cool, but honestly, how often are you filling huge pots? I feel like people get sucked in by the “chef’s kitchen” hype and forget about the basics. Outlets and lighting are way more practical. I’d go heavy on deep drawers and maybe splurge on a killer range hood. Curious—would you put any of that extra cash toward better ventilation or is that just me obsessing over smoky stir-fries?

I’m with you on the range hood—good ventilation is underrated, especially if you cook a lot. I used to think it was overkill until I tried making steak indoors and set off the smoke alarm three times in one week. Deep drawers are a game changer too; way better than digging around in cabinets. But I do wonder, would you prioritize a built-in pantry over more counter space if you had the budget? Sometimes I feel like storage gets overlooked when everyone’s focused on gadgets.

Honestly, I’ve wrestled with this exact dilemma. When we redid our kitchen last year, I thought extra counter space was non-negotiable. But after living with a walk-in pantry (even a small one), I’d never go back. Having everything organized and out of sight just makes the whole space feel less chaotic. That said, if you’re into baking or have lots of appliances that live on the counter, it’s a tougher call. For me, storage edges out—barely.
