"bulbs definitely win points for setting that cozy vibe...and impressing guests who didn't know they needed purple patio lighting until they saw ours, lol."

Haha, totally relate to this! I've found bulbs great for creating those specific moods too—especially if you go for RGBW bulbs that let you dial in warmer whites alongside colors. One thing I'd add though: if you're planning a larger setup or multiple zones, switches can simplify things significantly. Less app juggling and fewer connectivity hiccups. But yeah, bulbs around a fire pit or seating area? Hard to beat that flexibility and wow factor.

Haha, purple patio lights...now you've got me thinking! Honestly, I've just started looking into smart lighting for my yard, and I didn't even realize RGBW bulbs were a thing until reading this thread. Sounds like a cool way to set different vibes without too much hassle. But yeah, the point about switches makes sense too—especially since I'm already juggling too many apps as it is. Good food for thought before I dive in...

I've done a bunch of yard lighting setups, and here's my quick take on bulbs vs switches:

- RGBW bulbs are definitely fun—holidays, parties, or just setting a chill vibe. But they can be pricey if you're doing a whole yard.
- Smart switches (or even outdoor smart plugs) can simplify things if you're already app-overloaded. I prefer fewer apps myself—too many logins drive me nuts.
- If you go RGBW bulbs, make sure they're rated for outdoors and moisture-resistant. Learned that one the hard way after a storm fried some cheap bulbs I had.
- Also, keep in mind your Wi-Fi signal strength outside. Not all smart bulbs handle weak signals gracefully...had to add an extender to avoid dropouts.
- Personally, I ended up mixing both: smart switches for main lighting areas and bulbs for accent spots. Best of both worlds without too much hassle.

Whatever you do, plan ahead a bit—nothing worse than realizing you need to dig up wiring again after you've finished landscaping (ask me how I know...).

Good points, especially about mixing bulbs and switches. I've found smart switches way more reliable outdoors—less fuss with Wi-Fi dropouts. RGB bulbs are cool, but honestly, after the novelty wears off, simpler setups usually win out for everyday use...at least in my experience.

Smart switches are solid, but I've actually had pretty good luck with RGB bulbs outdoors. Wi-Fi dropouts haven't been much of an issue for me—maybe it's just my router placement or something. Plus, being able to tweak colors for holidays or gatherings is a nice perk. Agree the novelty can fade, but having options never hurts. Different strokes, I guess...
