"Curious if anyone's tried ground covers like creeping thyme or moss between stepping stones?"
Did creeping thyme between flagstones last summer—honestly, best decision ever. Smells amazing when you walk on it, and weeds barely stood a chance. Just prep the soil well first...trust me on that one.
Did you find creeping thyme held up okay through winter? I gave it a shot a couple years back, and while it was great during summer (totally agree about the scent!), winter was another story. Maybe it's just my climate or shady yard, but it got patchy and sad-looking by spring. Switched to Irish moss last year, and honestly, it's been a champ. Doesn't smell as nice, sure, but it stayed green and lush even after snow melted. Not knocking creeping thyme—I miss the fragrance—but have you noticed any winter issues? Curious if I just had bad luck or if others ran into the same thing...
Had a similar experience with creeping thyme—looked amazing until winter hit, then it turned into a sad little patchwork quilt by spring. Glad the Irish moss worked out for you though, might give that a try myself next year...
Had the same issue with creeping thyme here too, looked fantastic at first but didn't handle winter well at all. Switched to Corsican mint last season—smells great when you walk on it and seems a bit tougher so far. Might be worth checking out if Irish moss doesn't pan out...
Glad to hear Corsican mint is working out better for you—I love that fresh scent too, especially after a rain. Had similar struggles with creeping thyme myself; it looked amazing at first but just couldn't handle the harsh winters here. Ended up trying chamomile as a ground cover last year, and it's been surprisingly resilient. Plus, walking barefoot on it feels pretty luxurious... Anyway, sounds like you're on the right track with your space—enjoy the cozy vibes!
