"Fans. Seriously, mosquitoes suck at flying in even a gentle breeze."
Yep, fans are underrated. I flipped a house last summer with a gorgeous deck but crazy mosquito issues. A couple of cheap oscillating fans made more difference than all the citronella candles combined...lesson learned the hard way.
Totally agree about the fans, but did you notice if placement made a big difference? I've tried fans before and it helped some, but maybe I didn't have them positioned right...or could it be the size of the fan itself? Also wondering if anyone's had luck with those mosquito traps—are they worth the money or just another gimmick? Seems like every summer I'm experimenting with something new to keep those little pests away.
I've wondered about those mosquito traps too—are they really effective enough to justify the cost? I've tried citronella candles and sprays, but honestly, nothing seems foolproof. Maybe combining traps with fans could help...has anyone tried that combo yet?

I've actually experimented with something similar last summer. Here's what worked best for me: I set up a mosquito trap (the CO2 type) near the seating area, then placed an oscillating fan nearby to create a gentle breeze. Mosquitoes aren't strong flyers, so the airflow really disrupted their flight path, pushing them toward the trap. It wasn't 100% foolproof—nothing ever is—but noticeably fewer bites overall. Worth a try if you're already investing in a trap anyway.
I've been thinking about trying this setup myself, so it's good to hear you've had some success. I wonder if the type of fan matters much—like would a stronger box fan be more effective, or is gentle airflow better for nudging mosquitoes toward the trap? Last summer, I noticed even a slight breeze seemed to help keep them away from my porch...maybe it's time to experiment a bit more.
