That’s one thing I always mean to do more often, but it’s easy to forget unless there’s already a sign of trouble...

I get the appeal of wifi water sensors, but honestly, I’m not convinced they’re always necessary. They’re handy for sure, but if you’re already in the habit of regular checks and using a moisture meter, it might be a bit much. I tend to focus more on prevention - good caulking, checking supply lines, that sort of thing. As for pulling appliances out, I’ll admit, I probably do it less than I should. Unless I’m deep-cleaning or notice a weird smell, it’s easy to let it slide...

Honestly, I tried to do the “regular checks” thing, but I always end up distracted by the dust bunnies behind the fridge and forget what I was even looking for. Wifi sensors sound a bit overkill to me too, unless you’ve got a basement that floods every spring or something. I’m more of a “if it ain’t leaking, don’t poke it” type… until I find a puddle under the sink and then it’s panic mode. Prevention is great, but my caulking skills are questionable at best.

But I’m curious, have you ever tried doing those mini-checks while you’re already under the sink for something else? Like, if you’re grabbing a cleaning spray or whatever, just peek at the pipes for drips or weird smells. It doesn’t have to be a whole production.

About wifi sensors - I used to think they were overkill too, but after my friend’s dishwasher hose burst while she was on vacation (total nightmare), I started wondering if a $30 sensor is really that wild. Not for every room, but maybe in the spots where you’d never notice a leak until it’s too late?

And hey, questionable caulking skills are basically a rite of passage. I’ve had to redo mine more than once because it looked like a toddler did it. Do you think it’s worth learning some of these little fixes, or is it just easier to call someone in when things go sideways?
