Honestly, I get the logic behind checking the water meter, but I’ve gotta admit—I tried that once and ended up convinced my pipes were haunted. Turns out, my neighbor’s kid was using the hose next door and I spent an hour crawling around with a flashlight for nothing. Maybe I’m just not cut out for detective work.

Here’s my two cents: sometimes those “quick inspections” can spiral into a full-blown plumbing panic. I once tightened a loose pipe under the sink and accidentally made it worse... cue the frantic towel grab. I’m starting to think there’s a fine line between being proactive and just poking the bear. For me, a basic visual check every couple weeks is enough. If something’s actually dripping or smells weird, then I call in the pros. Otherwise, I’d rather not stress myself out over every little creak or drip. Maybe I’m just lazy, but my sanity appreciates it.

Honestly, I think you’re onto something with the “don’t stress every little thing” approach. I used to obsess over every drip and creak, but half the time it was just the house settling or someone running water next door. A quick look every now and then is usually enough—no need to turn plumbing into a full-time hobby unless you actually enjoy it. If it’s not leaking, smelling funky, or making weird noises, I say you’re good.

- I get where you’re coming from—no need to lose sleep over every little sound.
- That said, I’ve seen a few “minor” drips turn into major headaches when folks ignored them for too long.
- Quick story: last year, a client thought a tiny leak under the sink was just condensation... turned out it rotted half the cabinet before they called me.
- My rule? Trust your gut, but if something feels off or you spot water where it shouldn’t be, don’t wait too long.
- Otherwise, yeah, no need to make it your weekend project unless you’re into that sort of thing.

Had a similar thing happen in one of my flips—tiny drip under the bathroom sink, figured it was just a loose connection. Next thing I know, the vanity’s got a soft spot and the floor’s starting to warp. Wild how fast water can mess things up. I’m all for a quick DIY check every now and then, but if something smells musty or you see water stains, I’d rather pay a pro than deal with mold later. Still, I get the urge to just ignore the weird noises... sometimes it’s just old pipes being dramatic.

Honestly, I get the “just call a pro” mindset, but sometimes that’s overkill.

“if something smells musty or you see water stains, I’d rather pay a pro than deal with mold later.”
Thing is, a lot of water issues start small and are easy to spot if you’re paying attention—loose fittings, old caulk, whatever. I’ve seen people spend hundreds on inspections when all they needed was a new washer or some sealant. Not saying ignore it, but a little DIY can go a long way before calling in backup.
