Honestly, the photo log trick is a lifesaver. I’ve had inspectors ask for proof on insulation and vapor barriers more times than I can count—especially when I’m using cellulose or hemp. Sometimes they still want to poke around, but having clear records usually keeps things moving. Old spec sheets are gold, even if half of them are faded or in weird formats. It’s a bit of a hassle upfront but way easier than ripping stuff out later.

Photo logs have saved my skin more than once, especially when I was redoing the attic with recycled denim insulation. Inspector wanted to see every layer, and I’d already drywalled. Luckily, I had a whole album on my phone—dates, close-ups, the works. He still poked around a bit, but didn’t make me tear anything out. It’s a pain to remember in the moment, but man, it’s worth it later. I do wish there was a better way to organize all those random spec sheets though... mine end up in a shoebox or somewhere in my email, never where I need them.

Yeah, photo logs are a lifesaver when inspectors get picky. I’ve had to do the same thing—snapped pics of every step, just in case. As for spec sheets, I hear you. I’ve tried folders, apps, even just emailing myself, but they still end up scattered. Ever tried just snapping a pic of the spec sheet and keeping it with your project photos? Not perfect, but at least it’s all in one spot when you’re scrambling.

Honestly, that’s been my go-to lately. I used to think I was organized—folders, color-coded tabs, the whole nine yards. Then I’d spend half an hour digging through my phone like a raccoon in a trash can. At least with photos, when the inspector’s breathing down your neck, you can just scroll and hope you didn’t accidentally snap your lunch instead of the wiring diagram. Not perfect, but beats the paper chase.

I’ve done the photo thing too, but half the time my camera roll is a disaster—blueprints, random pets, and way too many blurry shots of my thumb. I tried one of those scanner apps that turns docs into PDFs and sorts them for you. Not perfect either, but at least I can usually find what I need without scrolling past 12 pictures of drywall dust. Guess it’s just picking the least chaotic option...
