How do you clean a showerhead without damaging its finish?
For a showerhead with restricted spray, how do you tell whether mineral scale is actually clogging the spray holes or whether the problem could be in the valve? I’m also unsure when it’s safe to soak a head in descaler versus removing it for cleaning.
Does the right method depend on the head’s material or finish, and what do manufacturers typically say about cleaner choice and soaking time? I’d rather not damage the finish or internal parts, or disturb seals around the connection.

The care instructions should set both the cleaner and the soak time; there isn’t a safe universal duration for every showerhead. Some finishes or internal parts may be damaged by acids or prolonged immersion. If the manufacturer permits soaking, stick to its specified product and time. Without that guidance, I wouldn’t assume a descaler is safe for the whole assembly.
