Can smart thermostat sensors smooth out uneven room temperatures, or do they mostly help choose which rooms the system pays attention to at different times?

It seems like a sensor schedule could help if the difference is limited to certain hours or rooms. If a room stays noticeably warmer or colder all day, though, I’d wonder whether airflow, duct balance, or system capacity is the bigger issue. Adding zones sounds more involved, and I assume it depends on the HVAC system and ductwork.

How many rooms does your system serve, and is the temperature gap persistent or time-dependent? What checks would you want an HVAC pro to make before considering zoning, rather than trying sensor-based scheduling first?

Apparently, it's because they sometimes mishear random words as their trigger phrase.
Finally bit the bullet and got one of those fancy smart thermostats everyone seems to rave about. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much - figured it'd just be another gadget I'd forget to use after a week. But it's been about a month now, and I gotta say, it's actually pretty cool. It learns my schedule, adjusts itself, and I swear my energy bill is already looking better. Plus, controlling it from my phone while still in bed on chilly mornings is a game changer, you know?

Only thing is, sometimes it gets a little too ambitious and tries to guess when I'm home or away, and it's not always spot-on. Like yesterday, it decided I wasn't home and dropped the temp way down... came back to a house that felt like an igloo. Anyone else have this happen? Curious if it's just mine being quirky or if that's a common thing with these gadgets.

Like, I accidentally triggered my own security alarm at 2 AM last night (neighbors weren't thrilled). Got me thinking - are you guys careful planners who read every manual, or more like me, diving right in and learning by trial and error? Quick poll:

A) Read everything first

C) Little bit of both

Been looking into ways to track my home's electricity usage lately and stumbled across two main options: smart plugs and those whole-house monitor things. Smart plugs seem pretty handy, especially since you can move them around and easily track individual gadgets. Like, I could finally figure out if my old fridge is secretly guzzling energy or if the gaming PC is the real culprit behind my bill.

But then again, the whole-house monitors sound kinda cool too. I mean, seeing your entire home's energy consumption in real-time on one screen seems super convenient. Plus, some of these systems claim they can actually identify specific appliances based on their electrical "signature." Not sure how accurate that is, but it sounds pretty futuristic.

The thing is, smart plugs are cheap and easy to set up, but you'd need a ton of them if you wanna track everything. Whole-house monitors are pricier upfront, but maybe cheaper in the long run if you really wanna get serious about cutting down your energy use. I'm not exactly swimming in spare cash, so I'm leaning towards smart plugs for now, but I'm not sure if that's short-sighted.

Has anyone here tried either of these? Curious which one folks prefer and why. Also, does the whole-house monitor really work as advertised, or is it more gimmicky? Would love some real-world experiences before I pull the trigger.
