That “clunk” is like the sound of security, right? I get it.

That “not fishing for keys in the rain” bit is so real. I swear, I used to watch tenants do the pocket-pat dance in the hallway like it was an Olympic event. The nostalgia of that heavy metal key ring is cute until you’re fielding frantic “I’m locked out” calls at midnight. Only downside? My dad still doesn’t trust those “fancy buttons”—he brings a spare key anyway, just in case tech goes rogue.

That’s the thing—keyless entry is a game changer for convenience, but I get the hesitation. I’ve installed a bunch of these, and honestly, the backup key option is a lifesaver for folks who aren’t ready to trust the tech 100%. One tip: always check the battery status every few months. Had a client get locked out once because the batteries died and, well, that was a fun call... Not. But yeah, not digging for keys in the rain? Worth it.

- Not gonna lie, I still get nervous about relying on batteries for access. Murphy’s Law loves my rental properties.
- Had a tenant call me at 2am once—turns out, their “backup key” was inside... with them locked out. Fun times.
- Convenience is great, but I keep a regular lockbox hidden just in case. Old school, but it’s saved my bacon more than once.
- Rain or not, sometimes the “low battery” beep is way too easy to ignore.

Yeah, that beep is easy to tune out until it’s too late. I’ve started swapping batteries every few months just to be safe. Still keep a lockbox tucked away, though—old habits die hard.

I get the habit of keeping a lockbox—old-school backup never hurts. I’ve been guilty of ignoring that low battery beep too, especially when it goes off in the middle of the night. Have you tried using lithium batteries instead of alkalines? In my experience, they last way longer in keyless locks, and you don’t have to swap them out as often. Still, I do a calendar reminder every six months just in case. Curious if anyone’s actually had their lock die at a really bad time...
