Battery reminders are smart, but honestly, I've had keyless entry for about three years now and never swapped batteries proactively. Most locks give you a low-battery warning way ahead of time...maybe yours doesn't? Could be worth checking into before spending extra on batteries every six months.

I've gotta disagree slightly here...low battery warnings are handy, sure, but relying solely on them can be risky. Had a friend whose lock gave a warning, but he kept putting it off—until one day, he got locked out at midnight (of course!). Personally, I just set a reminder once a year to swap batteries proactively. It's quick, easy, and saves me from those unexpected late-night adventures. Plus, peace of mind is worth the extra few bucks spent on batteries.

I see your point about proactive battery swaps, but honestly, I think you're being a bit overly cautious here. Sure, your friend's midnight lockout sounds like a classic Murphy's Law scenario—been there myself with smoke detectors chirping at 3 AM—but modern keyless locks usually give multiple warnings well ahead of time. If someone ignores repeated low-battery alerts, that's more on them than the tech itself.

Personally, I've had my keyless lock for about three years now, and I've never proactively swapped batteries. I just keep a spare 9-volt handy in the kitchen drawer, and when the lock starts beeping or flashing, I swap it out right away. Takes less than two minutes, and I've never been locked out yet (knock on wood...). Plus, batteries aren't exactly cheap these days, so I'd rather squeeze every last bit of juice out of them before replacing. But hey, if annual reminders help you sleep better at night, more power to you—literally!

I've been following along and get your logic, but I'm curious—does your lock have a backup option if the battery completely dies? Mine has these little terminals underneath where you can hold a 9-volt battery to temporarily power it, so even if I totally space on swapping batteries, I'm not locked out. Might be worth checking if yours has something similar...could save you from that Murphy's Law moment at 2 AM.

Mine's got that 9-volt trick too, and honestly, it's saved me more than once. But just in case yours doesn't, you could stash a spare battery somewhere handy outside—like tucked away in a waterproof box behind a plant or something. Peace of mind, ya know?
