Rechargeables are a solid idea, definitely saves money in the long run. Tried a keypad cover myself, but honestly, my kids saw it as an extra challenge rather than a deterrent... go figure. Ended up just teaching them the code and setting some ground rules—worked surprisingly well. But yeah, battery life's still something I keep an eye on, especially in colder months.

Ha, sounds familiar. When we first installed our keyless lock, I thought a cover would help too—turned out my daughter treated it like a puzzle game. Gave up on that pretty quickly. For cold weather battery issues, I've found lithium rechargeables hold up better than standard ones. Still, I keep a spare set handy just in case... learned that lesson the hard way one chilly evening.

Haha, sounds exactly like my experience. Thought I'd outsmart the kids with a hidden keypad behind a sliding panel—nope, just turned into a daily escape room challenge for them. On batteries, lithium rechargeables are definitely the way to go, especially in colder climates. I swapped mine out after a few frustrating winter mornings. Now I just keep a backup key stashed somewhere discreet... old habits die hard, I guess.

Haha, your kids sound like mine—always up for a challenge. I tried something similar with a hidden keypad behind a decorative shelf... lasted about two days before they cracked the code. Now it's just another family joke. Totally agree on lithium rechargeables, though; made a huge difference during winter months. And yeah, backup keys tucked away somewhere discreet are still my go-to. Guess some things never change, right?

Interesting about the lithium rechargeables, but honestly, I've had mixed results. They're great in theory—especially in colder climates—but I've found they can be finicky with certain keypad models. Had a couple of instances where the keypad acted glitchy or drained faster than expected. Ended up switching back to regular alkalines for reliability. And yeah, kids will always find a way...mine figured out the backup key hiding spot within a week, so now I just rotate locations every month or so. Keeps them guessing at least.
