So I bit the bullet last month and installed those noise-blocking windows in my apartment...honestly, best money I've spent in ages. I can actually sleep without hearing traffic and neighbors arguing, lol. Anyone else had luck improving their home's noise levels?
I've had pretty good luck tackling noise by adding weather stripping around my doors—sounds basic, but you'd be amazed how much noise sneaks through those little gaps. Also hung some thick, insulated curtains in the bedroom...they don't block everything, but definitely soften street noise. If you're handy and up for a weekend project, building simple acoustic panels with insulation foam and fabric can make a huge difference too. It's satisfying when DIY projects actually work out and you can finally sleep without earbuds, lol.
Good tips overall, but have you noticed much difference with insulated curtains? I've found they soften noise a bit, sure...but for serious street noise, double-pane window upgrades have been the only real game changer for my clients. Curious if you've considered that route yet?
Insulated curtains helped a bit for me too, but yeah, they're definitely not miracle workers. Double-pane windows were a huge improvement, but I've also had luck with adding weather stripping—surprisingly cut down noise more than I expected. Have you tried that yet?
I installed weather stripping around my front door last winter, mainly to stop drafts, but yeah, it did noticeably cut down hallway noise too. Funny how these little fixes can make a difference. Double-pane windows are definitely the gold standard though—had a client who lived near train tracks swear by triple-pane glass. Pricey, but he said it turned the rumble into barely a whisper. Guess peace and quiet has its price tag, lol.
